National Indigenous Tennis Carnival

On 29th of August 2019, young talented Antakirinya Matu โ€“ Yankuntjatjara member, Henry Brown-Lennon, 11 years of age played in the National Indigenous Tennis Carnival held in Darwin. The event had over 180 participants state and territory wide. Henry was selected to represent Alice Springs and the Northern Territory. Henry was invited to participate after the Head Coach of Alice Springs Tennis Association noticed his talent during a school visit.

The event not only focused on tennis, but provided an intensive cultural focus/experience that included the Djuki Mala workshop/concert, basket weaving, jewellery making, painting, sculpting and didgeridoo making. Moreover, it was a golden opportunity for Henry to display his talent in front of the 14th time Grand Slam Champion, Evonne Goolagong Cawley. The event also hosted several other activities and workshops such as: hot shots clinic, tennis drills and many more enriching activities.

Following this great opportunity and experience, Henry has decided he would like to embrace Tennis as a sport, and will be signing up for coaching with Alice Springs Tennis Club.
Henry would like to take this opportunity to thank the Antakirinya Matu โ€“ Yankuntjatjara community and the workers of Antakirinya Matu โ€“ Yankuntjatjara Aboriginal Corporation, who worked diligently to make this experience possible.
