The Moonta Netball Carnival was on again on the 29th and 30th October, where the Coober Pedy Eagles had two teams competing, one in A-grade and one in B-grade.
A great time was had by all, but unfortunately neither team were able to make the finals. Our A-grade girls played exceptionally well together and managed to win the last game of the day against Far North Flinders 22-20 in dramatic fashion. The girls were 10 points behind at three-quarter time and managed to pull off the win by two points! The team management and support staff, made up of Shirley Williams – A grade Manager, Leah Brown – B grade Manager, Jennifer Walker – Coach and Tyran Dodd – official, were collectively so happy and proud of the team, an outsider may have thought we had won the final! Dora Garlett was named best and fairest, while Talana Brady and Evanna Williams also earned honourable mentions for playing in the A-grade team even though they don’t normally play netball!
The group had their own presentations after the carnival agreeing that Amber Smith was the best and fairest with Serenna Weetra as runner up!
The A-grade team were composed of Amber Smith, Talana Williams, Serena Weetra, Dora Garlett, Evanna Williams, Xena Carpenter, Kira Augis, Harmony Doolan and Tammy Carpenter.
We would especially like to thank Antakirinya Matu-Yankuntjatjara Community, OZ Minerals, CU River Mining and the Aboriginal Health Council without which we would not have made it to be involved in this year’s carnival.
